Phil has enjoyed making mechanical devices from an early age. He became particularly interested in energy efficient technology in his teens and since then has been involved in the study and development of innovative low energy power and water solutions. Phil had set up businesses to develop his innovations and progressed the Papa Pump and related technology since the ‘90’s.
Hugh graduated from Oxford University with a degree in modern and classical Chinese and has since worked for Mahon China, Nomura (Tokyo) and JP Morgan (London) in the financial sector.
Hugh became Commercial Director in 2011 and represents Water Powered Technologies’ commercial interests in both the UK and worldwide

Design & IT Manager
Since his apprenticeship with General Motors began in 1969, Brian now has 45 years experience in Mechanical Engineering Design and is highly proficient in Solidworks 3D CAD and Luxology Modo 3D modelling, animating and rendering software. Brian also looks after the company IT
Simon trained in construction at Bott, running the spot welding bay. He has also experienced in mechanical engineering, mainly air conditioning and pipe fitting. His varied experience has also included carpentry, electrical work and general building. He is now putting his extensive experience to work with Papa Pumps.
After qualifying with a degree in Graphic Design, Graham worked for a large independent retailer as Advertising Manager, involved in the production of all design for print, POS, plus radio and television commercials. Since 1999 he as run is own design and print business.
Heather started her career in the nuclear industry which led to specialisation of safety and risk management in Europe and Australia. She developed these skills and has advised extensively within the aviation and nuclear sectors. She currently lives with her husband and family in Australia, is a keen enthusiast and advocate for renewable energy and is an energy coach. Heather is also the WPT distributor for Australasia where her knowledge of energy and engineering are well placed in advising individuals and corporations alike.
Director, North America
Frank is an engineer by degree and a marketing and sales professional in his career, having held positions at IBM, Shipley Associates, Aotea Global Services, and Water Powered Technologies. His 30 years of business acumen and creative solution-building expertise have established him as a thought leader, an “idea guy” who thinks outside the box, and a proven builder of long-term relationships with clients. Frank served in the U.S. Air Force and attended Old Dominion University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He is active in his community as a volunteer, and has served as a member of the Board of Directors for several local non-profit organizations.
Design and Innovation Adviser
Huw has many years experience heading design and technology projects with companies such as Philips and Hewlett Packard, where he managed teams in the UK, North America, Spain and Japan. He recently worked with the US Government ‘Design Programme’ where he advises technology and engineering businesses. Huw is a visiting professor at the University of West of England and fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce as well as a member of the Royal Photographic Society. He is passionate about innovation and design and is committed to the development of sustainable technologies.
In more than 35 years as a patent consultant, Stephen has helped businesses to grow and prosper by protecting their inventions, brand names and product designs. With a degree in physiology, Stephen is a Chartered UK and European Patent Attorney and has a broad practical experience in engineering, computing and electronics.
Business Development Adviser
Born near Birmingham, Adam joined the Royal Navy in 1989 and spent 12 years as a submarine navigator alongside shore-based roles as an Admiral’s assistant. After leaving the Royal Navy, Adam set up and ran Marine South West, a not-for-profit company. For 2 years, he was a Regional Manager of the British Marine Federation. In 2011 he moved to Plymouth University as Marine Commercial Director and was responsible for creating, maintaining and developing partnerships with commercial marine businesses. This led to a role as Business Development Director for the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology.
Tidal Power Consultant
Following a long varied career as an engineer in the RAF, Joseph was able to turn his engineering abilities to designing rubber based structural solutions and also developed a novel machine to remove beading from tyres allowing the economic recycling of car and commercial vehicle tyres for use within his and other products. His knowledge of aerodynamics and structures led to the Jetstream lagoon concept which WPT are developing to maximise the efficiency and longevity potential of this exciting new tidal power technology.
International Sales Advisor
Luis is a Chartered Accountant with long-term experience in international business and trade development in both Government and the private sector, including with the US Department of Agriculture and the US Department of Commerce in Venezuela. He is currently working as a Consultant for the Department for International Trade to support the UK Government’s new Agri-Tech Strategy. Luis ran his own consultancy in Miami, Florida, working with various Government agencies, associations, chambers of commerce and private clients. His trade experience spans Europe, Latin America and Africa. Luis holds an MSc in International Business from Universidad Pompeu Fabra, a PgDip in European Union Laws from IDEC Barcelona School of Management, a PgCert in International Food Laws & Standards from Michigan State University and also has a PgCert in Diplomacy Studies from the Harvard Kennedy School. He was awarded the Franklin Award (2001) and the Meritorious Honour Award (2005) by the US Department of State.
